Nice to have a visitor from:
Villa Puri Sayan
A 3 bedrooms villa in Gianyar regency.
As if in a dream of Shangri-La, Villa Puri Sayan, seems to float like a jewel
above the verdant rice terraces and whitewater rapids of the Ayung River valley.
Just fifteen minutes from the culture and arts mecca of Ubud, and five minutes
from the world-renowned Four Seasons and Amandari hotels, with whom it shares
this quintessential Bali vista, the villa provides all the discerning traveler
could want in the way of comfort, style, and privacy.
To enter the fully-fenced property by foot or vehicle requires check-in by
intercom and passage through wrought-iron electric security gates. The parking
area adjacent to the house accommodates several vehicles.
LIVING ROOM
The immediate impression upon entering the nine-meter diameter circular
living room is at once expansive and cozy. The eye is met with the earthy tones
of African-inspired décor, the rich, warm gleam of an exotic hardwood floor, and
a soaring conical ceiling. Light floods the room from the open French doors and
draws the awestruck viewer’s gaze across the infinity pool and deck to Bali’s
most breathtaking sunset view: alone in the shimmering green rice fields, an
ancient Balinese temple is silhouetted against a dramatic backdrop of pink and
orange opalescent clouds and distant volcanoes. This is the perfect place to
relax with a cocktail by the pool and take in the majesty of it all.
The living room is the center point of the house from which the other wings
containing the three bedrooms and baths, and the kitchen branch off. A
generously proportioned sofa and chairs, and large floor pillows provide enough
comfortable seating for a gathering of 12, with more seating available at the
round dining table. A stereo system, library, and board games are tucked
inconspicuously into built-in niches, maintaining the streamlined and elegant
simplicity of the décor.
PATIO
Flagstone steps lead down from the living room to a charming,
Mediterranean-style dining patio shaded by a passion-vine pergola—a perfect
place for a delicious home-cooked meal.
SWIMMING POOL
The infinity-edge swimming pool with its natural landscaping and blue-green
rock tiles imparts the feel of a natural pond, yet it has a state of the art
ozone cleaning system. A large hardwood deck with padded reclining lounges
perches between the pool and the cliff, affording fantastic 180-degree views.
Fragrant frangipani trees, coconut palms, ferns and tropical flowers dot the
landscape which comprises a total half a hectare, front and back, and provide
endless ideas for floral arrangements.
BALE
Relief from the sun can be found in the covered outdoor lounge area one
level down from the pool. A king-sized foam mattress, pillows, and mosquito
netting make this an ideal fourth sleeping area, or a very romantic place to
listen to the rushing river and have a snack and glass of wine. For the hardy
and adventuresome, a challenging hiking trail leads from the back steps,
hundreds of feet down to the valley floor and the first-rate whitewater
experience of the Ayung river.
MASTER BEDROOM
Upstairs in the south wing, the richly sensual textures and jewel tones of
the furnishings in the 5×6m master bedroom bring to mind Arabian
Nights—diaphanous embroidered and sequined silk curtains billow in the breeze
around a sumptuously appointed king-sized bed (complete with ultra-soft Egyptian
cotton linens and fine down pillows!). Polished teak floors feel smooth
underfoot and the midnight blue glazed walls offer soothing simplicity in this
air-conditioned haven. A Chinese armoire holds the latest novels and travel
books, a writing desk and chair take in the view, and satellite TV and DVD are
there for entertainment.
The French doors of the master bedroom lead from a wraparound deck outside to
the fourth, and most elevated, verandah—a cool spot for morning yoga or
meditation, coffee al fresco under the parasol, or some late-night star-gazing.
MASTER BATHROOM
Between the bedroom and master bath is a walk-in closet with locking
cabinets and plenty of room for storage. The 4×5m, celadon-green ensuite
bathroom has terrazzo floors and counters with ample storage, and a huge
skylight providing perfect make-up lighting. There is no bathtub, but an
extra-roomy unenclosed shower has great water pressure!
YELLOW BEDROOM
A sandstone stairway leads down from the living room to the saffron-colored
5×6m guest bedroom, also strategically situated to take full advantage of the
stunning valley views. This air-conditioned suite has a queen-sized bed and two
singles. Double doors open out onto a stone courtyard between the pergola and
the lounging verandah. This room can be entered independently through a private
passageway leading to the front of the house. There is an attached 2×3m blue
bathroom with shower, and separate dressing room.
RED BEDROOM
The north wing is comprised of the Red Chinese Room and Jade Bathroom. A
short passageway leads directly from the living room into a 4×4 mt.
dramatically-decorated guest bedroom redolent of Asian opium dens. Candy-apple
red glazed walls on three sides seem to breathe with shimmering reflected light
from the pool just outside the French doors. Behind the massive and authentic
hand-carved Chinese opium bed a gold-leafed wall gleams. As with all other
bedrooms, this one has panoramic views and air conditioning.
Attached to the Red Bedroom is the 3×4 mt. open-air Jade Bath, with green
terrazzo floors and counters, and a large shower. Architectural accents such as
antique carved Balinese doors and Thai temple-rubbings create an opulent
atmosphere.
KITCHEN
A fully equipped 4×7m modern kitchen is tucked behind a wall of white
curtains in the east wing off the living room. The kitchen is made up of two
preparation areas, a pantry, and dry room, where the capable and experienced
staff creates delicious fare in both Asian and European tradition. Adjacent to
this area is the laundry, and staff bathroom.
STAFF
Included with the house are one cook, three maids, a driver/guide,
gardener/pool maintenance man, and a night watchman.
